Kgosi Gobuamang burial scheduled for Saturday

05 Aug 2021

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has appealed to Bakgatla Ba Ga Mmanaana to give Kgosi Gobuamang Gobuamang, whose funeral is Saturday, a dignified send-off while observing COVID-19 protocols.

Comforting the tribe and the royal family in Thamaga yesterday, the President advised residents not to allow Kgosi Gobuamang’s death to cause a succession dispute.

Kgosi Gobuamang, the most senior tribal leader of Bakgatla Ba Ga Mmanaana, died July 31 at aged 74.

Describing Kgosi Gobuamang as a leader who served his people and the nation with diligence, the President said the attribute had over the years resulted in the Bakgatla Ba Ga Mmanaana chieftaincy being defined.

He expressed hope that Kgosi Gobuamang’s legacy would be carried forward.

The deceased’s uncle, Kgosi Segale Gobuamang, told President Masisi that the late kgosi had been unwell since last year and that his condition worsened around February.

History has it that Thamaga came into being in the mid-1930s after the first residents moved out of Moshupa following a dispute with authorities in Kanye.

Some sections of the Bakgatla Ba Ga Mmanaana are found in Khuis in the Kgalagadi District and neighbouring South Africa.

Kgosi Gobuamang leaves behind his wife and five children; three women and two men. Ends
