BNSC leadership changes in line with Act- Billy
05 Aug 2021
Changes in the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) leadership are in line with the requirements and provisions of the BNSC Act of 2014, Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Buti Billy has told Parliament.
Answering questions asked by Nata-Gweta MP, Mr Polson Majaga on Wednesday, Mr Billy said the changes in management, however, did not occur frequently.
He stated that board members were appointed every four years in accordance with Section 7 of the BNSC Act.
Mr Billy stated that Section 20 of the same Act provided for the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer on a fixed contract not exceeding five years.
“This five-year contract may be renewed depending on the outcome of the engagements between the employer and the employee at the end of each contract period,” he stated.
He further stated that change of BNSC management did not affect sport in the country as the commission had a long-term strategy (Vision 2028), which was broken down into four-year plans to facilitate implementation.
He added that the plans were periodically reviewed to realign to emerging issues and ensure relevance to current circumstances.
The strategy ensured successful implementation of the plans, he said.
MP Majaga had asked why the BNSC management changed constantly and whether that did not affect sport throughout the country. Ends
