 Funds to pay casual workers at Mahupu Unified School have been released to the school to process payments, Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja has said. 

Answering a parliamentary question on Tuesday, Ms Makwinja, said she was therefore hopeful that workers would be paid by the end of this week.

She regretted the delay by the ministry to pay 10 casual workers who were engaged to extensively clean the school in March this year to make the school comply  with COVID-19 protocols. She  explained that there were no funds at the time.

“The school then failed to secure funds in April this which has led to the delay, but I promise that they will be paid,” she said.

Takatokwane MP, Mr Tshoganetso Leuwe had asked the minister if they were aware of the delay in paying casual workers at the school since 2019. 

MP Leuwe also wanted to know reasons for the delay and when they would be paid. Ends
