Councillor Israel Jesi of Nkange North ward who died due to COVID-19-related complications will be buried tomorrow in Nkange. 

Speaking on behalf of the family on Tuesday, his younger brother, Mr Thobane Jesi said Councillor Jesi was diagnosed with COVID-19 on July 23 and put on home isolation until July 30 when he was admitted at Tutume Primary Hospital. 

He was later transferred to Masunga hospital, where he died. 

Jesi first contested and won the ward during the 2004 general elections, under the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), snatching the seat from Botswana Democratic Party (BDP), which had held it since 1966.

In 2009, he won the ward again, only to lose it to BDP in the 2014  general elections. 

He won back the seat in 2019, this time under the Umbrella for Democratic Change ticket. Ends
