03 Aug 2021

Tutume Police are investigating an incident in which a decomposed body of man was found in a house at Madikwe ward in Tutume.

Station Commander Superintendent Jerry Halahala told BOPA in an interview on August 3 that their probe into the matter followed a report received over the weekend that a man aged about 27 years was lying in his rented house motionless.

Superintendent Halahala said indeed the police found the man and took him to Tutume hospital where he was certified dead. He said it was also established that the man was an illegal immigrant from Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, he said preliminary findings have revealed that prior, the man had engaged in a fight with his fellow countrymen also illegal immigrants.

He also noted that they have managed to get in touch with next of kin for deceased in Zimbabwe and were still waiting their arrival.

Superintendent Halahala stated that the landlord for the deceased was likely to be charged between P1 000 to P3 000 for harbouring an illegal immigrant without proper documentation.

The station commander appealed to Batswana to desist from housing illegal immigrants saying it was very expensive for government to look for the relatives in times of need such as death. Ends
