Former minister of defence laid to rest

Former Minister of Justice, Defence and Security Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse was laid to rest at his home village in Serowe on Friday.
He died at the age of 63 on July 23 after being ill for some time.
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said in his message of condolences read to mourners that Mr Seretse’s commitment and selfless service to the government of Botswana as a former minister played a pivotal role in the development of the country and the peaceful dispensation, which Batswana enjoyed.
President said Ndelu, as he was affectionately known also served as Minister of Lands and Housing and was actively involved in the mobilisation of building houses for the less priviledged.
“We celebrate his life and thank him dearly for the sacrifices he made for the development of this country”, he said. Speakers described Mr Seretse as a father, a brother, loving husband, an uncle, a doting grandfather, humble and religious.
Mr Seretse’s friend Mr Nonofo Molefhi and also former minister said Ndelu was his close friend for several years.
He said Mr Seretse was actively involved in the developments in his home village.
He said he was part of different committees, which took part in the development of the village.
Former President Lieutenant General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama said Mr Seretse served the nation well and was one of the first officers to be trained in the new Botswana Defence Force in 1977.
He said Mr Seretse rose through the rungs to the rank of Brigadier.
He said Mr Seretse left BDF to join politics and was an extremely good minister.
He left politics to concentrate in farming.
Lt Gen Khama described him as a firm believer in God. Before joining politics, Mr Seretse worked for the BDF from 1977 to 1998.ENDS
