Makwinja commends initiative

An initiative by Lefhika’s Gym to offer free services to the elderly in Kopong village has been hailed as an endeavour that will positively impact the wellbeing of senior citizens.

During her visit to appreciate Lefhika’s Gym owned by Mr Keabetswe Sebape on Tuesday, Lentsweletau/Mmopane Member of Parliament, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja said despite the fact the gym was a business, the owner found it fitting to engage elderly people for free.

She said the decision was highly commendable, adding that most of the time, health remained compromised due to lack of exercise.

Ms Mkwinja, who also the Assistant Minister of Basic Education encouraged Kopong community to support the elderly adding that the initiative could help to prevent non-communicable diseases.

The area MP also called on Kopong business community to support the 30-year-old whose focus is not only on profit-making but also on supporting the health of the community.

 Kopong clinic Matron Ms Bethina Mokhawe applauded Lefhika’s Gym’s initiative as it would help improve the health of the elderly residents.

 Ms Mokhawe said she had  observed a significant improvement in some of her patients who have started exercising.

Kgosi Michael Molefhe encouraged Kopong community to make full use of the gym facility for individual benefit, adding that exercising could significantly improve the health of an individual.

 He also called for the face-lifting of the Kopong health facility, which he said was in a very poor state hence affecting service delivery.

 Ms Nnini Thatayaone said she had been able to walk without the support of crutches and carry out home chores efficiently after she started exercising a couple of months ago.

 Ms Mmapula Sori also testified that it was after regular exercises with Lefhika’s gym that three communicable ailments that had been troubling her became controllable, thus reducing her regular visits to the local health facility. Ends
