Mourners on Monday laid to rest the body of Kgosi Boitshwarelo Difemo of Lotlhakane West and sung him into eternity at his home village.
Kgosi Difemo, aged 64, died of COVID-19 related complications last week.
Several speakers in their poignant tributes described him as a man of great social ascription in his community and beyond.
Moshupa subordinate council deputy chairperson, Mr Obakeng Modisaotsile said Kgosi Difemo was a visionary community leader with big dreams for his village.
Mr Modisaotsile, also area councillor, said Kgosi Difemo laid the ground work for, and championed the cause of development in his village.
He said the foundation and footings he laid would be enjoyed by future generations of Lotlhakane West.
He said his death laid bare the fickle and ephemeral nature of the human condition. “This loss is a glaring reminder of our own mortality and that all life is just vanity,” he said.
On behalf of the Moshupa/Manyana Member of Parliament Mr Karabo Gare, senior administration officer, Mr Ronald Lekokoma was also generous in his expressions of appreciation for the fallen giant.
He said Kgosi Difemo was a kind, humble and loving community builder who set a fine example for his subjects.
Mr Lekokoma also flagged up the danger posed by some people in his area, who went about their lives as normal even after testing positive for COVID-19.
He said doing so was against the law and undermined efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Kgosi Mothusinyana Mochankana of Moshupa, who joined the bogosi institution after the deceased said he was his go-to-man on tribal matters said, the late Difemo took his hand when he joined the institution and walked him through the first, faltering, steps into the job.
He said Kgosi Difemo was passionate about preserving his culture and time honoured traditions of his people. From time to time, he said, they exchanged ideas and experiences on leadership and culture.
Kgosi Mochankana said his steady, practical leadership put the interests of the community before his own.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Mochankana pleaded with residents to afford his family time to grieve before his replacement was sought.
Bishop Dilaki Mabolokanye of Pentecostal Remnant Church said Kgosi Difemo was a born again, adding it only followed that he would inherit the promise of eternal life.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, daughter and ten grandchildren as well as mother, four sisters and a brother. ENDS
