Remain resolute despite allegations

25 Jul 2021

Health workers have been implored to stay focused and remain resolute in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The plea was made by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi during a tour of the Moshupa main kgotla vaccination centre on Friday.

President Masisi said frontline workers should not be discouraged by unfounded allegations levelled against them but should instead be focused as they continued to deliver services exceptionally well.  He pleaded with Batswana to heed life-saving messages disseminated by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and abide by set health protocols.

Dr Masisi said the fight against the pandemic was priority number one for government as it aimed to safeguard the lives of Batswana.

He pointed out that some national projects would be delayed because financial resources had been diverted to fighting the pandemic.

The President said saving the population from COVID-19 called for implementation of a successful and timely vaccination programme.

He stressed the need to expedite vaccination and called on the public to come on board to ensure that happened.

Another speaker, presidential COVID-19 task team coordinator Dr Kereng Masupu, warned the public against consuming information that could endanger their lives.

Meanwhile, Moshupa District Health Management Team (DHMT) nursing superintendent, Ms Kefilwe Rowland-Disele has reported that the vaccination rollout plan was progressing well in the area.

She said up to 150 people per day were vaccinated at the main kgotla vaccination centre.

Other vaccination centres were Mogaung ward and Moshupa council clinic, she said.

Ms Rowland-Disele said 3 736 people had received their first dose while 3 088 were fully vaccinated.

She said 289 health workers were vaccinated.

However, Ms Rowland-Disele said some health workers were in isolation which slowed down the vaccination exercise. Ends
