President Masisi calls for vaccination ramp up in Kanye

25 Jul 2021

Frontline workers have been encouraged to ramp up vaccination.

Touring Mafhikana and Mmamokhasi vaccination sites in Kanye Friday,  President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said vaccinating 500 people a day was too small a number for the village.

Saying efficiency could save more lives, he urged them to operate at peak performance.

President Masisi said the nation was in serious danger from COVID-19 and that government had lent its full weight behind every effort to save lives and livelihoods.

He decried a crippling shortage of COVID-19 vaccines in African countries as a result of wealthier nations hoarding medicines.

Only three per cent of the entire African population had been vaccinated so far, he noted.

Dr Masisi stressed the need for Botswana to transition to a knowledge-based economy capable of undertaking research and coming up with solutions for contemporary challenges facing the world.

He encouraged Batswana, especially those awaiting vaccination, to keep adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols.

President Masisi also advised Batswana to ignore false and misleading narratives about COVID-19 vaccines.

“When your turn comes, please take the jab, it’s safe and we know nothing better than this vaccine at the moment,” he said.

The President thanked health workers in Kanye for their sterling job in the fight against COVID-19.

President Masisi was accompanied by MPs Dr Lemogang Kwape and Mr Thapelo Letsholo for Kanye South and Kanye North respectively as well as and presidential COVID-19 task team coordinator Dr Kereng Masupu. Ends
