Borehole engine kills woman of Kgogo lands

Police have confirmed the death of a 65-year-old woman of Kgogo lands, East of Boatlaname who died on July 16 after she got stuck between borehole engine belts.
Sojwe police acting station commander Assistant Superintendent Bashi Keokgale said in an interview that the horrific incident happened when the woman was trying to provide light for her husband to switch off the borehole engine after watering their livestock.
Supt Keokgale said the woman was on the other side when the engine belt allegedly pulled her clothes and she got stuck, leaving her with severe fractured right leg and left arm.
It is reported that the desperate husband called for assistance from a neighbour and they both rushed the injured woman to the nearest health facility in the village where she was certified dead.
Supt. Keokgale said that was a second similar incident in a space of six months.
Earlier a 19-year-old man died at Mokgatsha-wa-Dikhudu lands near Otse in the Central District in January under similar circumstances.
He thus appealed to farmers to be cautions at all times when dealing with borehole engines given that belts remained uncovered, thus posing danger to human life. ENDS
