Budgetary constraints stall admin blocks construction
13 Jul 2021
Kgalagadi District Council has not been able to provide for the construction of administration blocks at Mosiiwa (Hukuntsi), Ledibela (Hukuntsi) and Ncaang primary schools in Kgalagadi North as a result of budgetary constraints.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, said priority was given to construction of teachers’ quarters, toilets and classrooms.
However, Mr Autlwetse said, the ministry would continue to submit requests for future funding for the construction of administration blocks in the primary schools and others across the country.
He also acknowledged the use of a small block at Ncaang Primary School as a staffroom, administration block and reception class.
In order to address the current situation, he said the school would receive a classroom block for reception class this financial year, through Community Constituency Project (CCP) 2019/2020 funding.
He said the tender had already been awarded and the contractor was on site.
Kgalagadi North MP, Ms Talita Monnakgotla, had asked if the local government ministry would consider building administration blocks at the said primary schools.
The MP had also wanted to know if the ministry was aware that Ncaang Primary School used a small block as a staffroom, administration block and reception class. Ends
