Road traffic accident claims 8-year-old girls life

Police in Tutume are investigating an incident in which an eight-year-old Standard Two pupil of Makuta Primary School in Makuta was hit and killed by a car last Friday.
In an interview with BOPA on Tuesday, Tutume Police Station Commander, Superintendent Jerry Halahala said that the little girl was hit by a taxi, while trying to cross the road by the school premises.
Superintendent Halahala said the child was taken to Tutume Primary Hospital, where she was certified dead upon arrival, adding that the [police office was still awaiting postmortem results.
He cautioned drivers to observe road signs, especially near schools, where there was a likelihood of children crossing the roads.
In addition, he said the police sometimes visited schools to sensitise learners on how to use the roads, adding that they would continue with such road safety education. ENDS
