Cold weather conditions expected

A cold front transversing the sub-continent.

The spell from Monday, followed by a ridge extended from the Atlantic Ocean high-pressure cell.

According to a media release from the Department of Meteorological Services, the cold weather conditions, started affecting most parts of the country yesterday and are expected to last until Thursday.

It states that the high-pressure cell, resulted in advection of cold air into the country, causing a significant drop in temperatures over most parts of country.

Maximum temperatures will range from very cold to cold over Ghanzi, Kgalagadi, Southern, Southeast, Kgatleng, Kweneng, North-East and Central districts.

The Ngamiland and Chobe districts will, however remain relatively mild, with maximum temperatures ranging between 22 to 25 degrees Celsius during this period, says the release.

Further, it states that some places over the southern half of the country will experience sub-zero minimum temperatures from today to Thursday.

Generally, minimum temperatures from July today to Thursday will range between minus four to seven degrees Celsius across the country.

It says, from Friday, temperatures will gradually increase in both maximum and minimum countrywide.

Therefore, the department advises the public to take necessary precautions to protect themselves and vulnerable people during this period. ENDS
