Policy protects promotes land rights

12 Jul 2021

Ngwato Land Board chairperson, Mr David Modisagape, says the revised Land Policy of 2019 was intended to protect and promote land rights of all land holders and promote sustainable usage.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Letlhakane, Mr Modisagape said the policy, which would effect next month, called for improvements in land administration and management.

He said improvements from both from a system, environmental and economic perspective would reduce conflicts at the macro and micro levels.

Mr Modisagape also indicated that one of the other policy objectives was to guide decision making and ensure uniformity, consistency, predictability and fairness in land management and also provide a guiding framework for land allocation, within the Ngwato territory.

He said the revised land policy allowed for citizens of Botswana to be allocated two plots; one in rural and the other in urban areas; regardless of having inherited or purchased plots.

He said through the land policy, people were advised not to sell their plots, but to rent them out to get returns and earn income.

Mr Modisagape further advised people with commercial, industrial and civic plots to develop them to attract investors to hire or rent them, rather than selling. ends
