12 Jul 2021

Institute of Development Management (IDM) has donated 120 single beds to Maposa Primary School to be used by learners accommodated at the school’s hostels.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Maposa recently, Nata Service Centre manager, Mr Jimmy Makhado said the school, which accommodated learners from within the village and the surrounding settlements, eas facing a shortage of beds and mattresses.

Mr Makhado said they had only 20 beds  for the 96 learners housed at the facility, which he said was disheartening, particularly during the winter season.

He said the Institute of Development Management donation was going to change the living conditions of the hostel dwellers.

When handing over the beds, IDM Francistown campus manager, Mr Elijah Moakofhi said they found it befitting to contribute to making learning exciting as the pupils worked hard to achieve their future goals.

Mr Moakofhi said social ills besieging young people and their ability to progress in life, which varied from poverty, bullying to early pregnancies, amongst others, called for partnership among stakeholders.

He added that for the children to thrive, they needed to experience consistent care by a loving and nurturing society, with provision of security and support that could instill in them self-confidence as well as resilience to cope effectively with societal pressures.

He said the donation was thus about showing that IDM cared about the children from all corners of the country, adding that they prided themselves in giving support to enable less privileged members of the society to feel appreciated and dignified.

“Our children need to be equipped with the right toolkits and facilities to unleash their full potential,” he emphasised.

Appreciating the gesture, Member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga said the donation added to the drive to a knowledge-based economy as their living conditions would improve and positively impact on them focusing on their school work.

Meanwhile, Tutume Sub-district Council deputy chairperson, Mr Thatayaone Kehitile appealed to IDM to consider adopting the school.

He noted that although it was under council care, the school still experience lack. ENDS
