11 Jul 2021

Miss Radisele Central 2020/2021 Ms Itumeleng Johane on Thursday donated clothes and sanitary pads to Radisele Junior Secondary School female pupils after identifying a need for such assistance.

Ms Johane said the desire to see girls transforming into incredible women had pushed her to step up and find a way of making a contribution that would bring some change to the life of a girl child.

She said as an endeavour to bring a change that she desired to see in the girl child, she had set up an empowerment club, which she called ‘I’m SHE club’.

She said the club’s main objective was to groom and nurture the girl child, and to help her develop a mindset so powerful that she could believe that she could do anything that the society said she could not do.

Such a mindset, she said, would also help the girl child to to resist succumbing to any kind of gender stereotype.

She said changing the mindset of girls was equal to arming them with the most powerful weapon, which would enable them not to be confined to any belief limiting their potential.

Deputy school head of Radisele Junior Secondary School, Ms Mavis Good said most learners at the school came from disadvantaged families, thus needed all the help they could get.

Commending Ms Johane for the donation, Ms Good said with the donor herself coming from a humble background, it was pleasing that she saw the need to assist address a lack that she experienced during her days at the same school.

The deputy school head encouraged Radisele Junior Secondary School pupils to be motivated by Ms Johane’s generosity as it would help bring confidence and dignity to the children.

Giving it’s background, the director of Miss Radisele Central, Mr Johnson Thobogang said theirs was a charitable organisation, whose aim included hosting the Miss Radisele beauty pageant as well as a talent exposure showcase.

These, Mr Thobogang said were done as a way of empowering girls, unearthing talents and promoting the spirit of self-employment in the village.

He said the project mandate was to come up with community engagement projects with young people at the forefront in talent development.

Mr Thobogang said Miss Radisele Central sought to bring together the youths of Radisele, together with those of surrounding areas such as Mogome, Mokgware, Tewane and Makoro by giving them a platform to showcase their talents.

He said their objectives included promoting the culture of fashion, social responsibility, creativity and self-actualisation through entertainment, and to empower the youth economically as well as instill in them a sense of self-reliance. ends
