Tumisang Orebonye’s hat-trick and Thatayaone Kgamanyane’s goal against Lesotho on Saturday has seen Botswana take second spot on the log of its group in the ongoing COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
With the 4-0 win against Likoena, Zebras redeemed their pride after losing 0-1 against South Africa in the opening game.
During the game, it was evident that the arrival of Orebonye, who had missed the first game, had given the Zebras a good shape as they gelled well and played as a unit.
In an interview after the game, the Zebras head coach, Letang Kgengwenyane said he was happy with the players’ performance.
“Against South Africa, we did not do well in terms of finishing. So for the past two days we have been working on finishing and it has paid dividends” Kgengwenyane said.
He added that the other factor that worked for them was position and direct play, adding his players executed the game plan well.
The coach said there was no doubt that Orebonye was class and the professional football in Morocco had shaped him.
“Orebonye was simpler and basic as he would draw defenders to him and release the ball to on-coming supporting midfielders and strikers,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Zebras will face Chipolopolo of Zambia.
The coach said the Chipolopolo game was a ‘must win’ and therefore they would leave no stone unturned to salvage a win for them to continue with the tournament. Ends
