14 Oct 2013
The 10th anniversary of Southern Africa Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (SADCOPAC) recently launched African Organisation of Public Accounts Committees (AFROPAC).
SADCOPAC sought to improve cooperation in relation to parliamentary oversight among member states. The launch was part of the 10th SADCOPAC anniversary celebration that was held in Arusha, Tanzania recently.
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson, also MP for Lobatse, Mr Nehemiah Modubule told the media on October 10 that the newly launched organisation will among others, create structures where member countries could network with the view to sharing best practices, and where appropriate, harmonising and standardising the work of PACs in Africa.
Mr Modubule added that the organisation would also strengthen the capacity of PACs to effectively fulfil their mandate through structured capacity building initiatives.
He said at the meeting, an interim Constitution of AFROPAC was adopted and its secretariat and office bearers appointed, which comprise the chair from South Sudan, secretary general and vice from Mozambique and Tanzania respectively, and that its secretariat will be hosted by Kenya. Ends
