Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Lemogang Kwape, will tomorrow (July 7) chair the 23rd meeting of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security, in his capacity as chairperson of the MCO. 

A news release from the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation says the meeting, which will be held virtually, will be attended by SADC ministers responsible for foreign affairs, defence, public and state security. 

It says the MCO will, among other things, deliberate on the political and security situation in the region and receive progress reports on e implementation of decisions made at its 22nd meeting. 

“These will include updates on the consolidation of democracy in the region, the construction of the SADC Standby Force Regional Logistics Depot and the status of signing and ratification of the protocol on the facilitation of movement of persons in the SADC region”. 

It further says the meeting was preceded by a senior officials’ virtual meeting on July 5-6. 

Dr Kwape will be joined by the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi, Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Ms Anna Mokgethi and senior government officials. Ends
