Fighters Giants game called off
14 Oct 2013
The Debswana first division south encounter between Mogoditshane Fighters and Killer Giants was called off, October 12, after a fight erupted between the supporters.
The game which was played at Mogoditshane Fighters grounds was stopped by referee Tirelo Ramatlakapela for the safety of the players, 13 minutes before end of the game.
Ramotswa outfits, Giants were leading the home team 1-0, when referee Tirelo Ramatlakapela surprised many by his decision. The referee’s decision was based on an off the field tussle between BDF XI marksman Khumbulani Maziba and an unidentified Killer Giants supporter.
Upon realising there was no security personnel to calm the two, the referee decided to halt the game, for the safety of the players. “I decided to call off the game for the safety of the players and everyone else, the Botswana Football Association(BFA) will decide on a way forward about today’s match,” he said after the game.
Mogoditshane Fighters coach, Enosi Mmesi said he could not comment about the behavior of, Maziba, who was a former Fighters player but now playing for BDF XI.
He blamed a slow start on the side of his team as what gave their opponents an early lead, a mistake they would have to rectify. Giants coach, Rolland Dlamini said the cancellation of the game was beyond his control and that only BFA was better placed to decide the way forward.
But he noted that Fighters as the home team could have provided security for the encounter. He was happy with his team’s play, which he believed could have earned them as many as four goals. Ends
