Kgatleng East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule, has expressed delight at being appointed Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.
Mr Pule took the oath of office as an assistant minister and member of cabinet at the Office of the President yesterday morning. Speaking to BOPA thereafter, he said he felt privileged to serve the nation as part of the executive.
“I am very much excited. I am grateful to be tasked with an important portfolio that impacts on people’s lives. We serve at the prerogative of the President and to be tasked with championing development projects at grassroots level is an honour,” he said.
He said having worked in the ministry for a long time, he looked forward to using the portfolio to deal with issues that impacted on communities.
“This is a ministry that is close to my heart; I worked there for 20 years. I joined in 1985 and served as a social worker at three councils - Kgalagadi, Southern and Jwaneng. I also served the ministry headquarters at the Department of Social and Community Development, now the Department of Social Services, for 10 years where we were coordinating policy matters,” Mr Pule revealed.
He then moved to the then Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs where he became director of Civil and National Registration then director of Immigration and Citizenship for nine years before resigning to join politics in March 2018.
After being elected to Parliament in the October 2019 general election, Mr Pule became the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly until his latest appointment.
“As deputy speaker I could ask the executive parliamentary questions, but as a member of cabinet that option will not be available. However, I will still interact with my constituency, to gather the views of the people,” Now, he had a duty both to the constituency and the country at large. Ends
