Tshukudu hits Mokwepa by 131 runs

14 Oct 2013

Gaborone Tshukudu produced a powerful batting performance over the weekend to claim a 131 runs victory over Lobatse Mokwepa and remain in contention of a semi-final spot in the Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) National 50 Overs tournament.

The clobbering of struggling Mokwepa at BCA Oval 1 saw Tshukudu collect their first maximum points of the campaign and move two points behind leaders Gaborone Nkwe.

Nkwe have four points from two matches compared to Tshukudu’s two points, making the final round-robin clash between the two Gaborone sides a must win encounter for both of them.

They will meet at the BCA Oval on Sunday morning to decide two teams that would qualify for the semi-finals from the Southern Zone.
Rashaad Mosweu hit five boundaries as Tshukudu, who batted first, raced to a 100 runs mark within the first 14 overs.

Noor Ahmed and Nabil Masters were other star performers, each making more than 50 runs to help their side establish a massive 300 runs for six wickets at the end of their innings.

Mokwepa were left chasing a big target and they got off to a good start registering 10 runs in the first over. However, they fell in disarray thereafter and looked in trouble when they lost three wickets before the end of the seventh over.

They managed a measly 107 runs for six wickets halfway through their innings, leaving them with a mountain to climb to reach the 300 runs mark established by their opponents.

Losing many wickets early in the innings negatively affected Mokwepa and they failed to recover. They managed further 62 runs in the next 14 overs, but the game was over when they lost their ninth wicket in the 39th over.

Mokwepa were suffering their second big loss after Nkwe also drubbed them by 187 runs last the previous weekend. They are winless at the bottom of the table and out of contention for the semi-finals.

Their last game is against Tau who are still with a chance of reaching the semi-finals. Tau and Tshukudu are levelled at two points each. Ends
