High rentals hinder progress
05 Jul 2021
A member of parliamentary portfolio committee on Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr David Tshere says high rentals remain a constant challenge for Youth Development Fund (YDF) beneficiaries.
Speaking during the committee’s visit to Ghanzi region recently, Mr Tshere thus called for the establishment of factory shells to cushion the high rental burden on YDF beneficiaries.
He said high rentals were a major contributory factor to closure or collapse of YDF-sponsored businesses.
Mr Tshere said he was happy that the youth had embarked on such projects as glass and braid manufacturing, which he said was evidence that Ghanzi was a township.
The committee visited some youth funded projects and the YDF beneficiaries cited exorbitant rental rates as having a huge impact on their businesses.
The young woman who prides herself as the first Motswana to venture into manufacturing of braids, Ms Matlhogonolo Seadimo of Mattie’s Yaki braid, and Ms Eli Phofedi of Sign Back Investment, a glass project, both told the committee that high rentals were their biggest challenge. Ends
