BOMAID key supporter of government initiatives

04 Jul 2021

With the stated aim of being the companion for healthier, happier lives, Botswana Medical Aid Society (Bomaid) continues to not only provide its members with much needed health insurance, but also remains a key supporter of government’s health initiatives.

Bomaid board chairperson Mr Emmanuel Maite told a recent media briefing that by so doing Bomaid hoped to contribute to the wellness, health and happiness of the nation as well as to sustainable development goals.

He noted that at the beginning of the first lockdown in April 2020, Bomaid board approved the enhancement of benefits to support its members who were at risk of covid-19 exposure.

This included a variety of interventions that included provision of supplements, testing, emotional support and hospitalisation.

He noted that in support of government’s initiative to combat the pandemic, the board approved P2 million contribution towards the Presidential COVID-19 Fund.

He said the company also set aside P30 million to manage potential risks posed by the disease to its members.

“As we were when the HIV/AIDS scourge was decimating our population in the 1990’s, it was always our intention to stay true to our purpose and to demonstrate our keenness to be in the forefront of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said

Mr Maite further indicated that Bomaid had also reviewed and improved their product offering.

The medical aid provider had also ensured the safety and wellbeing of its human capital by implementing remote working strategies informed by COVID-19 safety guidelines, he said.

He noted Bomaid’s ultimate goal was to improve or maintain members’ health thus contributing to the achievement of 2030 Sustainable Development Goal 3 and ensuring that members would continue to enjoy unparalleled access to healthcare. Ends
