Sport is the ultimate Unifier - Gare

04 Jul 2021

Sport does not only serve the purpose of unifying nations, and fostering nation building.

It also functions as the glue that binds together various political formations into balled up national interest.

This was said by Moshupa/Manyana Member of Parliament, Mr Karabo Gare at the official launch of Gunners’ Moshupa supporters’ branch on Saturday.

He said only sport could achieve the feat of causing people of different gender, political convictions, religion, and identity to forget their differences and work together as one.

Giving an example with football, he said it encouraged team spirit, solidarity and mutual respect.

Mr Gare said sports also helped to maintain law and order as it diverted people’s attention from unwanted behaviors.

The bonus was that sport could also provide employment, he said.

MP Gare said Gunners Moshupa supporters’ branch was long overdue given the team’s existence since its establishment in 1962.

He said the launch should herald bigger and better things in terms of sports in the constituency.

Mr Gare said football administration was a calling that honed the individual for bigger challenges in life and national leadership.

He advised the branch managers not to be disquieted when faced with challenges, but to face the situation head-on as that would go a long way in building their character and preparing them for bigger challenges in the future.

MP Gare said the opening of the team’s branch in the constituency would encourage branch formations in other regions. He thanked Gunners football club for finding it fit to open a branch in Moshupa.

Extension Gunners football club secretary general Mr Edwin Mabapa said in an aside with BOPA that their desire was to build a legacy legacy for upcoming generations.

He called on the executive to unite for the success of Extension Gunners and football in Botswana. ENDS
