Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Francistown (CCCF) has continued its benevolence and donated 300 blankets worth P54 000 to Francistown City Council to benefit the elderly in winter.
Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, CCCF chairperson, Mr Yongbin Shen said the organisation had since 2016 been donating to the elderly and children in different parts of Francistown, benefitting about 2 000 residents.
Mr Yongbin said they had made it their obligation as the Chinese community to extend a helping hand to needy people.
He said last year this time, they donated 420 blankets through the office of the city mayor.
Mr Yongbin also noted that they had been working with the council as well as Francistown residents in the fight against COVID-19, adding that he was hopeful and adamant of victory over the pandemic.
He indicated that the Chinese communities also continued to comply with Botswana’s emergency rules and regulations, adding, ‘we will not fire employees, but continue to pay them their full wages’.
City of Francistown mayor, Mr Godisang Radisigo commended the Chinese community for their generosity and work they continued to do in the area every year.
Mr Radisigo said last year’s donation reached all beneficiaries in the 19 council wards.
He indicated that the relationship between Botswana and China remained strong, adding that Botswana students and employees in China continued to benefit from such a bilateral relation.
Deputy town clerk - finance and administration, Mr Lawrence Mazinyane said Botswana and China shared same values aimed at assisting the needy in their localities. Ends
