Kgatleng Council adopts two motions withdraws one

29 Jun 2021

Kgatleng Full Council meeting  on June 28 finished its week-long business by adopting two motions while one was withdrawn.

A motion requesting the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services to suspend payment of all private sporting facilities lease during the COVID-19 pandemic was adopted.

Presenting the motion, nominated councillor, Mr Jonathan Male stated that the P100 fee charged for leasing sporting grounds should be suspended until games resumed.

He argued that since the advent of COVID-19, it was no longer feasible to pay such fees because teams which owned such grounds had no income due to the suspension of games.

Also adopted was a motion asking council to request the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security to permit its officers to assist concerned farmers with identification of impounded matimela (stray) animals.

Tabling the motion, Councillor Male said it was pointless to impound livestock with identification because owners could easily be traced through the Livestock Identification and Traceability System.

Impounding livestock cost the council more money than contacting their owners,  he argued

Councillors rallied behind the motion, stating that impounding cattle had led to Batswana losing their most priced animals whereas they could have easily been contacted.

A motion requesting Kgatleng tribal leadership to transfer accountability of graveyards to the council was withdrawn following advice that the responsibility did lie with the municipality.

The council’s business included meeting discussion of a District Development Committee report encompassing all Kgatleng District administrative authority committee reports.

The report  summarises activities carried out in the district and highlights progress achieved in the implementation of development projects and programmes.

Council also reflected on progress made towards the fight against COVID-19 and roll out of vaccines across the district. Ends
