Gaborone City councillors have showered the Mayor, Mr Father Maphongo with praises for sound initiatives.

Commenting on the mayor’s speech during the ongoing virtual first full council for the financial year 2021/22 on Monday, Gaborone, Block 3 councillor, Ms Motamma Horatius said the mayor’s initiatives were tangible, measurable and visible.

As such, Ms Horatius agreed with the mayor’s plea of having the mayor’s speech tabled twice a year, at the beginning of the year and at the end of the financial year, as it would allow committee reports to be discussed adequately.

Councillor for Babusi, Mr Phuthego Modise said there was some progress in the patching of potholes around the city, however adding that some of the roads were due for reconstruction.

Meanwhile, councillor for Notwane, Mr Isaac Molefhe called for strict supervision and timely completion of projects, stating that close monitoring and supervision of project implementers could lead to works being completed on time.

“A binding schedule for projects should be created so that projects can be completed timely,” he stated.

Mr Molefhe also advised the council to intensify revenue collection, which would in turn be of benefit to the community.

Leader of Opposition and Diphetogo councillor, Mr Tshepo Moloko expressed concern over the escalating cases and fatalities brought about by COVID-19 in the Greater Gaborone zone.

Mr Moloko agreed with the mayor that community leaders should join hands to assist health workers in every way possible to fight the pandemic and ensure that the health protocols were adhered to. Ends
