Dikoloti appreciates Majwe Minings donation

28 Jun 2021

The  Government cannot alone afford to carry the burden of meeting the needs of all its citizens.

This was said by the Minister of Health Dr Edwin Dikoloti at a donation ceremony in Maokane where  Majwe Mining  Joint Venture donated computers and mechandise to Mogale Junior Secondary School and Maokane Primary School on Friday.

Dr Dikoloti said the gesture shown by the company served to nurture relations between the private sector and Government as well as other stakeholders, which contributed towards the development of the country.

He said giving was part and parcel of Batswana culture, and Majwe had to be appreciated for upholding it.

Dr Dikoloti said the donation would help to lift morale at  Mogale Junior Secondary School whose spirit was often dampened by lack of learning and teaching equipment.

He noted that mining remained one of the pillars of the economy, and it was fitting that as one of the mining giants, Majwe Mining should give back to the community.

Dr Dikoloti said Majwe Mining, who’s contract with Debswana had expired, demonstrated true friendship by donating at the time when many would have expected them to be wrapping up.

He also said it was no secret that the COVID 19 pandemic had derailed some development programmes, and that  the Government welcomed any assistance by the private sector.

He also took a moment to condemn acts of delinquency in schools, and called on the community to help reprimand students and encourage them to focus on education.

For his part, Majwe Mining Deputy Project Director, Mr Caster Mothibedi said his company had contributed towards education in the area since its establishment in 2011.

He said their focus on education was out of  their belief that developing the sector was the best investment a country could make.

He said many villages in Jwaneng and Greater Jwaneng had been good hosts since the company’s establishment, making it only right for Majwe Mining to give back to them.

He said their focus on Mogale Junior Secondary School was because the school admitted students from these surrounding villages.Mr Mothibedi said the donation would only serve as one of the memoirs of the company’s relations with these villages.

Mogale Junior Secondary School head, Mr Effort Gaboiphiwe said as a school they were concerned by their poor academic performance of recent and had committed to improving.

He said the gesture by Majwe Mining was a sign of confidence in such a commitment, adding it would bolster their commitment. ends
