Transit trucks not exempt from curfew regulations
28 Jun 2021
Incoming and transiting trucks are expected to comply with curfew hours and halt movements from 10pm to 4am daily.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA recently, Department of Road Transport and Safety Road Safety Officer, Mr Moses Babusi said trucks travelling beyond stipulated curfew hours would be contravening the law unless a recognisable permit was produced.
He said drivers must follow prescribed routes and rest at designated truck stops.
“Driver of the truck must be a holder of PrDP-Goods or a SACU permit,” he said.
Mr Babusi truck drivers who were Botswana residents would be quarantined between trips, by their employers, at facilities that were certified or approved by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
Botswana Police Services Assistant Commissioner, also BPS Deputy Director - Traffic, Mr Christopher Ndlovu said only trucks providing essential services were allowed to travel during curfew hours.
However, he said the drivers should have valid COVID-19 permits, failure of which one may be charged for failure to comply with COVID-19 regulations (Section 7 (1) of the Emergency Powers Act notice no. 74 of 2021). ENDS
