The member of Parliament for Moshupa/Manyana constituency Mr Karabo Gare has commended UNIK Construction Engineering for donating 300 blankets to the constituency.
Mr Gare said at the hand- over of the blankets in Moshupa on Friday that the donation came at an opportune time as it would cushion constituents against the chilly weather.
He challenged UNIK Construction Engineering’s General Manager Mr Yung Sun to extend the noble gesture to other constituencies.
Mr Gare who is also the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security said he would distribute the blankets to the less privileged families across the constituency.
He also noted that his office would strive to build resilient local economies that would adapt to challenges as the private sector had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He spoke of the need to explore value chains in sectors of tourism, agriculture and education as they presented opportunities that could improve the quality of life of Batswana.
For his part, Mr Sun said the gesture was out of appreciation for Batswana especially Moshupa/Manyana residents who had welcomed him well in their area.
He thanked Water Utilities Corporation and the Government of Botswana for allowing him to work on the sanitation project.
He said UNIK had been involved in the development of the country for the past 24 years as it began its operation in 1997 and had since provided employment opportunities to Batswana and supported communities.
Furthermore, he said the company had previously donations in the southern district through its corporate and social responsibility programme. Last year the company contributed P1 million to the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
Mr Sun said the 300 blankets cost P90 000. ends
