Counsellor calls for mindset change

28 Jun 2021

A change in mindset, association and visiting places are said to be the three main challenges that derail people from achieving their goals in life.

Addressing Monarch community in Francistown on Saturday, Francistown-based motivational speaker, Ms Thandie Malebang said every person had goals and dreams, but it becomes difficult for them to realise those dreams without mindset change.

In this regard, Ms Malebang said for people to achieve their goals and aspirations, they had to adjust their mindset to suite their environment.

She explained that with a good mindset, people always made calculated decisions in order to overcome what they had gone through. Ms Malebang said change was needed on a daily basis and it began with oneself.

“Your attitude towards issues of life is very important. When you are wrong, apologise,” she added.

The psychological counsellor also said for one to achieve set goals, they should always associate with positive friends.

She said a negative social circle would act as an echo chamber for bad ideas while a positive one would support one’s dreams.

One reason why people fail to achieve their plans, she said, was that they associated with people with different values from theirs.

“It is easier to connect with positive people even though it is hard to make new friends at first,” she added.

In addition, Ms Malebang explained that people should learn to challenge their thoughts to achieve their goals by weighing thoughts against evidence.

She explained that it was disheartening that nowadays a lot of people were consuming negative things on social media.

On places to visit, Ms Malebang said, “If you want to build a house, always go to a place where there are beautiful houses so that you can be inspires to build your dream house,” she said.

Ms Malebang emphasised the need to set goals in life as goals were motivators. “Goals will inspire you to do more. They will make you go to another level.

They perfume your life. They energise you and they are your life dreams,” she added.

She said people needed motivation, particularly that they faced COVID-19 challenges.

Some people, she said, had ‘disqualified’ themselves from life and needed to be motivated to come back to life, which was one of the objectives of having organised the motivational talk. Ends
