The Rotary Club has come on board to assist Mochudi Resource Centre for the Blind (MRCB) to raise P13 million for the construction of a fully furnished rehabilitation centre.

Speaking at the stakeholders meeting in Mochudi on October 10, president of Rotary Club, Mr Barry Evans said their aim was to ensure that communities lived better lives. Mr Evans said they were humbled by the commitment displayed by the centre’s staff as they came up with other means of raising money for the children.

He further said they would engage other stakeholders such as Lion’s Club to help raise funds. He said they intended to raise P9 million towards the construction of the centre and install all the necessary equipment needed for the children.

The director of MRCB, Ms Sophie Moalosi said the facilities could no longer accommodate all children because of the increasing number of children yearly. She said despite the accommodation challenge, the place they occupy was not user friendly to the visually impaired more so that it was built on a hill.

She added that they wanted to build a rehabilitation Centre which would be suitable for the children. Ms Moalosi said as a non-governmental organization they only get funding from government for the running of the Centre but also meet difficult challenges in areas of development, transport, expansion and other amenities.

She said ever since Botswana was declared a middle income country, donations were not forthcoming.  She however called on stakeholders to assist them raise money for the construction of a better shelter for the children.

Ms Moalosi said the construction of their plot in Raserura requires P13 million.She thanked the Rotary Club for coming on board to help them raise money for the Centre and requested other organisations to help.

Ms Moalosi said MRCB is an initiative of the Dutch Reformed Church of Botswana which started in 1969 with the intention to extend help to the visually impaired people. Ends
