Botswana Energy Regulatory Authority (BERA) has noted with concern, the illegal filling of cylinders by some distributors and retailers.

According to a press release from BERA, the method used for filling these cylinders is neither approved nor safe and poses serious safety, environmental as well as health hazards.

The authority has reminded the public that cross filling of competitors’ cylinders and the use of unsafe methods is prohibited by the standard on ‘the handling, storage, distribution and maintenance of liquefied petroleum gas in domestic, commercial and industrial installations’ BOS 3.

The authority therefore informs members of the public to desist from such unsafe practices and report any such incidents and non-compliances.

Any person, the release says caught doing so would be charged accordingly.
