Mr Maya Obiditswe who was crowned Mr RADP 2019 has been encouraged to soldier on despite the challenges he faced in his kiosk business.
When touring the Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) projects in Mababe recently, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele commended Mr Obiditswe for having undertaken an initiative that would not only change his life but would add value to developments in his village.
The assistant minister said Mr and Miss RADP programme was aimed at developing the lives of young people.
He, therefore, encouraged residents of Mababe in the Maun East Constituency to put government programmes to optimum use to develop their area.
The 22-year-old was funded with P15 000 after winning the RADP contest.
He invested the money in a kiosk as the village did not have a supermarket, which forced residents to travel as far as Maun for services.
Mr Obiditswe said the business started slow but picked up pace with time.
He expressed optimism that the reinstatement of hunting in the area would boost his business.
Among his challenges, he cited poor roads and lack of public transport in the area, which he said made it difficult to purchase stock timely while sometimes it got damaged on transit.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Kgosimontle Kebualemang of Mababe decried the bad state of the Shorobe/Mababe road.
On a positive note, Kgosi Kebualemang thanked government for bringing electricity to their village which they expected to be in use before the end of winter.
For his part, the Maun East Member of Parliament Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile encouraged Mababe residents to put aside differences and develop their village. Ends
