Assessment on elephants damage ongoing

Assessment of damage caused by a herd of elephants at Kuke ranches in the past two weeks is said to be ongoing.
Regional wildlife officer, Ms Nametso Molodi, said in an interview that some fences were destroyed during the operation to drive out the 70 to 100 elephants from that area.
“We suspect that the elephants are from the Ngami area,” she noted.
The regional wildlife officer said the operation to drive the elephants was a cumbersome exercise, hence deploying a helicopter.
She said they ultimately managed to drive them towards the Ngami land area and was hopeful that they would return to their natural habitat.
Ms Molodi appealed to the public to report when they encountered elephants in their farms so that wildlife officers could promptly respond to the situation.
She said they had advised veterinary officers to monitor the fence to check the damage caused by the elephants. Ends
