Botswana Concession Limited (BCL) were crowned champions of the annual Intermine First Aid competitions in Jwaneng on October 12.

The championship was a package of five team members and had to go through the first stage in which they were given a scenario and scooped position three, bringing them one step closer to the championship.

BCL proved to be the best team as they scored 195 points in the last stage of multiple injury scenario compared to their score of 383 in the first stage where they took position three.

When commenting on their win, captain Oageng Maoto explained that team work, good leadership and communication set them apart from other teams that participated.

“Delegation was a good choice, as it shows good leadership skills which are also vital in this competition.” Orapa Letlhakane and Damtsaa Mine gave BCL stiff competition as they were neck to neck with with a 192.5 score thereby making the Boteti mine silver winners, they had earlier in the first stage obtained the same position with a total score of 389 points.

Even though Jwaneng Mine had come out with guns blazing during the first stage where they took position one with 390 points, they dropped one step down by scooping bronze with three points less than the silver medalists.

Commenting after the competition, the chief judge Dr Mwamba Nsebula said he was satisfied with the play because the teams were able to reach the set standards, noting that it showed that all teams worked hard towards the competition.

He explained that the standards had to be set high because accidents occur daily in the workplace as well as in the community. He said the First Aid skills obtained by the mine workers would go a long way in saving lives in and outside of the work place.

The chief judge cautioned the teams that the next competition standards will be set even higher than this year. He said the teams should work even hard for the championship. Ends
