Gaborone Lion’s Club has donated eye testing and reading glasses to Molapowabojang.

When giving remarks at the eye testing and screening session recently, the Mmathethe/Molapowabojang MP, Dr Edwin Dikoloti thanked the club for its social responsibility.

He acknowledged the club’s commitment to assisting the needy, elderly and children, who could not afford private opticians, saying this would give hope to those who had been in need of spectacles.

“This gift of sight is very significant in one’s life as, with sight, one is able to take care of themselves and their families,” he said.

Dr Dikoloti, who is also the Minister of Health and Wellness, thanked the club for also donating 100 blankets to be distributed in the constituency.

In her remarks, greater Gaborone Lion’s Club president, Ms Keratilwe Bodilenyane, said she was pleased with the way the community had heeded the call.

She said theirs was a charitable organisation, which was initially founded to provide assistance to the visually impaired, but its services were later extended to assist patients with diabetes, cancer as well as donating to the needy and to address environmental issues.

“We are best known for saving sight, but we also feed the hungry, aid elderly and the disabled, care for the environment and so much more. Lions are a global service network of volunteers that make a difference in their local communities,” she said.

Ms Bodilenyane said they saw it fit to assist the community with blankets after receiving a call for help from the MP.

She said through the foundation’s generous support of large-scale humanitarian initiatives, they were able to extend their reach.

Ms Bodilenyane indicated that in a bid to comply with the COVID-19 protocols, they were compelled to assist 50 people.

She said prescription reading glasses assistance would be provided to those who were deemed to be in need. Ends
