Mopipi Police Post nears completion

21 Jun 2021

Boteti deputy district commissioner, Mr Ewetse Selelo, says Mopipi Police Post is expected to be complete by end of this month.

When responding to questions during a Boteti Sub-council session recently, Mr Selelo said finishing touches were ongoing, adding that the contractor was still sourcing materials for cells from South Africa.

He indicated that Mopipi police did not have capacity to operate 24 hours since there were only six police officers and two special constables.

Meanwhile, he also explained that Section A of the Khumaga game proof fence project had been constructed, while Section B had issues pending before courts of law.

Mr Selelo was responding to questions from Councillor Ofentse Gabalatlhane, who had requested progress update on the Mopipi Police Post and the date operations would commence as well as its hours of operation.

Councillor Thomas Kgethenyane of Khumaga/Moremaoto also requested an explanation on why the contractor for Makgadikgadi fence was not allowed to continue with extension of the fence from Khumaga to Kubi, while Councillor Batsweletse Kgagamedi of Tsienyane West had asked when the Rakops mini-stadium would be completed.

Councillor Ngongorego Khutsafalo of Letlhakane West requested an update on the Letlhakane multi-purpose stadium, saying there was no activity at the project site.

Senior architect, Mr Ofentse Moatshe, stated that the Rakops mini stadium would be completed in July 2021, adding that a contractor was recently awarded the tender and was on site.

He also explained that Lucara Botswana and the contractor allocated the  Letlhakane multi-purpose stadium project were still working on ways to resolve termination of contract.  Ends
