Maun board grapples with 15- year waiting list
17 Jun 2021
Maun Sub-Land Board has the highest land waiting list in the North West District that stands at 37 243.
Addressing a North West District Council meeting on Wednesday, chairperson Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho said the waiting list dated back 15 years.
However, Mr Ntsogotho said the board had managed to allocate 556 out of 1 895 plots surveyed at Sexaxa from November last year.
The remaining 1 339 plots were planned for allocation this financial year, he said.
Regarding transfers of land rights applications, Mr Ntsogotho noted that the board received many such requests in residential, commercial and integrated farm categories.
He said delays in processing applications related to record keeping challenges explaining that the challenge was being addressed.
Commenting, Sedie councillor Mr Kaukapita Kaukapita suggested that the board engage other sub-land boards in the district to help with the waiting list.
Mr Kaukapita said there were many layouts identified in areas such as Samedupe, Moeti-Maphane and Sexaxa but said the Maun Sub-Land Board still failed to allocate land.
Nominated Ccuncillor Mr Bareetsi Bogaisang said it was high time the board devised plans to address the waiting list. ENDS
