Botswana spar with Zambia

Botswana Boxing Association (BOBA) has lured Zambian boxers for a training camp in Botswana.
The Zambian delegation is made up of three boxers, Patrick Chinyemba of 52kg, Everisto Mulenga (57kg) and Stephen Zimba (69kg).
BOBA public relations officer, Taolo Tlouetsile, said in an interview that the delegation would include a coach and team manager, adding that head of delegation, Captain Nalumango, was expected to arrive today.
He said BOBA invited Zambia Boxing Federation for an international training camp, after attempts to send the team for camps and international friendlies in Europe, Asia and United States failed due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The purpose of the training camp with the Zambians, he said, was to put competition mood in the team’s psych, reset, focus, have stronger sparring sessions, exchange notes and accord each other support where possible.
He said Botswana boxers had been on camp since January 13 and managed to attend only one tournament in Serbia in April.
Tlouetsile, however, said the challenge was that the Zambians did not have a women’s team, which meant that one of the boxers; Keamogetse Kenosi would be without a sparring partner.
He, however, said lack of a sparring partner did not mean she would go on holiday since the Olympic Games were near, hence training must intensify.
He said the camp was expected to last for two weeks. ENDS
