Member of Parliament (MP), for Mahalapye West, Mr David Tshere says there is need to reward high performing teachers to improve and maintain the good results.
The area MP said this during his official school tour at Tshikinyega Primary School, Monday.
The MP said he was in a mission to visit schools in his constituency and create a rewarding system to motivate teachers and pupils of completing classes to perform well in their final examinations to improve academic results.
Mr Tshere encouraged teachers to bring back the element of competition, as it brought motivation.
“Simple rewards such as preparing dinner for best performing teachers would do,’ he said.
Concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mahalapye West legislator appealed to teachers to adjust to the new restrictions and adhere the protocols.
On other issues, Mr Tshere commended Tshikinyega Primary School for being the top performers in the constituency for the 2020 PSLE.
The school head, Mr Keafe Monoka said Tshikinyega had a total 915 pupils, 35 teachers and 18 non-teaching staff.
He said from January up to now his school recorded 23 cases of COVID-19, all of whom had recovered.
Mr Monoka said there were challenges in his school, like shortage of stationary.
Mr Monoka attributed the good PSLE results to a formidable PTA and dedicated staff.
Therefore, he suggested that the cluster could set its own target that would be above the one set by the Ministry of Basic Education.
He also suggested that top performers should be rewarded.
The chief education officer, Ms Ceciliah Sunday proposed that best performing teachers and pupils should be awarded with tablets and computers.
Mr Tshere is also expected to visit the following nine schools; Tamocha, Mahalapye, St James, Nthomphe Koma and Tewane primary schools, Mowana, Parwe and Mahalapye junior secondary schools, as well as Madiba Senior Secondary School. ENDS
