Gumare-Mohembo road facelift to start
16 Jun 2021
North West District Council (NWDC) chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho, has expressed gratitude on the impeding commencement of Gumare-Mohembo Road maintenance.
Mr Ntsogotho, who was officially opening a council session on Monday, noted that the road maintenance was a welcome development since the road was in a bad state.
He said the two part project had been allocated P170 million for the shoulder reinstatement and asphalt overlay.
Mr Ntsogotho said the two parts of the project, whose tender was open for bidding until June 24, were Gumare-Sepopa and Sepopa-Mohembo.
When commenting on the chairperson’s speech, nominated councillor, Mr Keebonye Mphoyamodimo appreciated government for allocating funds for maintenance of Gumare-Mohembo Road and the NWDC for the internal roads in Maun such as the asphalt resealing of the Wenala-Matlapana road.
Nominated councillor, Brigadier Letsogile Motsumi, said the renewal of the Gumare-Mohembo road was not only significant to the Okavango region, but to the country since it linked Botswana with Namibia through Mohembo Bridge.
Councillor for Sedie, Mr Kaukapita, expressed hope that the workmanship would be of high standard, unlike the Maun-Toteng road, which he said got damaged shortly after maintenance. ENDS
