Mmaphula JSS rewards excellence
13 Oct 2013
Mmaphula Junior Secondary School (JSS) has awarded students who have performed well both academically and in extra-curricular activities.
Mmaphula JSS scooped first position in the academic excellence awards held in Tonota last year beating all 11 secondary schools in Palapye sub-region. The school head, Ms Dikeledi Baruti said during a recent prize giving ceremony that the school did exceptionally well last year and was again striving to do better than last year.
Ms Baruti said six teachers received academic excellence awards for three core subjects, Mathematics, English and Moral Education as well as three optional subjects; Economics, Physical Education and Religious Education. Thus, she urged teachers and students to work even harder this year and strive to beat all secondary schools country wide.
However, Ms Baruti said there was a small number of students who tarnished the good image of the school, adding that students’ indiscipline was of serious concern. “Although we are proud of the students’ achievements, there is a small number of those who tarnish the good image of the school,” she said.
She said cases of fighting, stealing, truancy and desertion were indicators of students’ indiscipline. “Students misconduct towards the authority, students patronising bars in the village and vandalism of school property, show that some students are ill-behaved,” she added.
Thus, she encouraged students to take care of school facilities and refrain from vandalising property. She also urged parents to join hands with the school management to address the issue, adding that if parents did not take responsibility for their children’s behaviour and education, the school’s good performance will be affected.
