Moshupa Police chief decries COVID-19 protocols violation
14 Jun 2021
Superintendent David Ramoseki of Moshupa Police Station has decried violation of the COVID-19 health protocols in his area of jurisdiction.
He told BOPA in an interview recently that the station had registered 53 cases of non-compliance to COVID-19 regulations in Moshupa from June 5 to Thursday June 10.
The violation of COVID-19 protocols encompasses 18 cases of unlawful gatherings, 17 of not wearing masks, two cases of brewing illegal concoctions, one for failing to keep the register and 15 for disobeying curfew hours.
Superintendent Ramoseki shared that 19 of the cases had been completed whereas 35 were still active.
Furthermore, he said in terms of gatherings, people tended to ignore the prescribed number of 50 people limit per event, and they often gathered not far from the funeral homes.
He noted that part of the 15 cases recorded for non-adherence to set curfew times were 13 boys who were found drinking and gathering at night, but failed to advance convincing reasons why they were at that particular place at that particular time.
He said the gathering violations were getting better despite people now migrating to ploughing fields in their efforts to cheat the law.
Superintendent Ramoseki expressed disappointment, noting that the majority of those that did not wear masks were youth and when asked why they violated the law, they never advance valid reasons and did not show remorse.
He said beer brewers were not arrested for selling beer this time around, but rather they were arrested for brewing and drinking traditional beer such as khadi and power at home.
He encouraged Batswana to abide by COVID-19 protocols to protect themselves and others from demise. ENDS
