The Orange Botswana digital school rollout project is in line with Vision 2036, says Mochudi East MP, Mr Mabuse Pule.
When giving a keynote address at the official handing over of the digital school rollout donation at Oliphant’s Drift and Ramotlabaki primary schools recently, Mr Pule applauded Orange Botswana for responding to government’s call.
He said through the project, Orange Botswana was playing an impactful and innovative role in the promotion of learning, especially at basic education level, adding that the gesture would assist in the learning process as well as the desire to realise quality education.
Mr Pule, who is also the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, said it was government’s hope that private sector entities would partner with it to forge ahead on education and skills development, thus, providing citizens with competencies to attain their full potential, to enable them to effectively compete globally as per the Vision 2036 second pillar of Human and Social Development.
He urged teachers to ensure that learners benefitted from the programme and encouraged learners to receive the gadgets and lessons with love and happiness and use them to their benefit.
When handing over the digital school gadgets, Orange Botswana legal and corporate affairs director, Ms Lepata Mafa, said the donation included one laptop, two mini-servers, 50 headsets, 50 tablets, one Bluetooth speaker, a projector and projector screen.
She said training on the operation of the gadgets, which had in-built Wi-Fi, was provided to educators, prior to the official handing over.
Ms Mafa said the intention was to roll out the digital school to 22 schools and so far six had already received their donations.
For his part, Kgatleng regional education director, Mr Mothusi James, said the handing over of the digital equipment signified transformation of the country’s education to deliver the 21st century learner.
He commended the Orange Foundation for helping the Ministry of Basic Education to implement, among others, the Thutonet chapter from the Maitlamo ICT policy, the recommendation of the revised national policy on education as well as the education strategic plan, which was currently driving the utilisation of ICT in teaching and learning in schools.
He said the ministry was committed to the transformation of teaching and learning through the use of ICT and the intention was to ensure that the devices included radio, television and computers, among others.
Meanwhile, the MP donated a football kit and a soccer ball to each school. ENDS
