Segokgo appreciates Botlhapatlou-Ngware-Malwelwe gravel road status

13 Jun 2021

As part of the  Ministry  of Transport and Communications efforts to ensure efficient service delivery, Minister Thulagano Segokgo on Friday toured Botlhapatlou-Ngware-Malwelwe and Mantshwabisi gravel road network.

When making stop overs in the affected villages during the assessment of the road, Mr Segokgo said it was important that he got firs-thand information and appreciate the status of the roads.

He said although the  roads were not included in NDP 11,  it was important that they were graded regularly to ease movement and protect people from incurring losses on maintenance of their vehicles.

He emphasised that plans for construction of roads should be included in the national development plan so that it becomes easy for the ministry to request funds for the projects.

Kgosi Donald Moshobore of Malwelwe asked the minister to consider constructing the 24km road connecting to Letlhakeng as the villagees accessed services from the sub-district headquarters.

“Even if the road cannot be tarred now, at least it should be maintained regularly so that it is accessible. The road is not usable during the rainy season,” he said.

Kgosi Dikaelo Tsiang of Mantshwabisi said the five kilometre road from the Letlhakeng-Molepolole road was planned for construction, but was halted due to the economic recession.

In response to the five kilometre Mantshwabisi road issue, Minister Segokgo said  the road was within an access road and should have been done during the construction of the main road.

However, he said he would see if there was any possibility of tarring the road although he maintained that funds ‘remain the greatest challenge’.

When giving a vote of thanks, Letlhakeng Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Meshack Tshenyego said he was hopeful that the minister would consider construction roads in the sub-district once funds were available.

Mr Tshenyego also asked for more graders since the sub-council experience delays  when the graders were taken for maintenance, which sometimes took months while roads remained unattended to. ENDS
