Seepapitso Class of 97 helps needy pupils

09 Jun 2021

Moshaneng headman has recently applauded Seepapitso Class of 1997 for donating 20 pairs of school shoes to needy pupils of Modise Primary School in the village.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Moshaneng, Mr Senna Marumo said the gesture was in line with the nation’s inherent values of love, unity and compassion.

He said the three had served the nation so well, particularly before independence in 1966.

Mr Marumo said it was important for upcoming generations to continue supporting one another other, especially in times of need just as forebears did, led by traditional leaders.

He cited a scripture in the Bible in which believers, inspired by love, had agreed to sell their property and shared the money equally among themselves with a view to building one another up.

But after benefiting from the arrangement, a certain Ananias and his wife also sold their property, but hid part of the money out of greed.

He said their lives were instantly cut short as a result.

Against this backdrop, he urged capable young Batswana to find ways to help the poor, adding that giving to the poor with love, moved God and commended the class for picking his village for the donation.

Class representative, Mr Oduetse Loeto shared that the group was formed in 2012 and fully registered as a society in 2013.

Through the society, Mr Loeto said they wished to network and uplift one another, help the community, especially by steering the youth out of harm’s way and supporting their former school to do well in academics, among others under the banner; We Are Going Far.”

Mr Loeto said they had in the past assisted Kgodisong Centre, a non-state actor that fends for orphanned and vulnerable children in Kanye, adopted Segwagwa Primary School, donated disinfectants and motivated Seepapitso pupils to focus and work hard in their studies.

They also built a guard house at Lodubeng cemetery.

A parent, Ms Ivy Setlhabi also thanked the class for the gesture and urged them to not to tire from their acts of kindness. She said their force of example also challenged the youth of Moshaneng to do something for the community that raised them. ends
