Value chains crucial in economic transformation

The Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Buti Billy has challenged Batswana to explore value chains in technology and agricultural sectors for the country’s economy to be export-led.

Speaking during a meeting co-hosted by MPs Dr Lemogang Kwape  of Kanye South and Mr Thapelo Letsholo of Kanye North, with the village leadership on Thursday, Mr Billy said it was important to identify potentials in the sectors of agriculture and manufacturing so as to create employment for Batswana.

Mr Billy who is also Francistown East MP said the ministry believed in the bottom-up planning.

He said the ministry’s COVID-19 financial relief programme assisted youth businesses, sporting clubs and individual athletes, as well as artists.

He said the ministry was using various avenues to come up with long-lasting solutions to the challenges of the economy.

On other issues, he said the long-awaited Kanye stadium that was on National Development Plan 11 (NDP11) was at Environmental Impact Assessment study (EIA) stage which was 99 per cent complete.

He said they wanted a stadium that would change the economic status of the villagers as well as give the village a facelift. Ends
